Hunter's friend, Triston, recently turned 4 years old and celebrated with a Transformer birthday party. The kids played with toys and loved taking turns hitting the birthday hat pinata with a bat...and enjoying the goodies inside! They also enjoyed eating pizza and cake! Happy Birthday Triston!

Zoo Fun

Merry Christmas

My family celebrated Christmas together a week early. We always get together before Christmas since my sisters are married and have to spend Christmas with other family members. Hunter received several gifts...a Discovery Kids Teach & Talk Exploration Laptop, John Deere Tractor set, Sponge Bob Walkie Talkies, and lots more! His daycare teacher also gave him a bag of goodies, which included Reindeer food and a letter from Santa! Before going to his daddy's house Christmas Eve, Hunter sprinkled the Reindeer food outside the front porch, and left Santa some cookies and milk under the Christmas tree. Santa enjoyed the snack and left Hunter a Monster truck, train set, keyboard, and much more! Hunter has enjoyed playing with all of his gifts, and I am so thankful to be able to provide him with much happiness. Hunter and I are truly blessed, and we will always remember the true meaning of Christmas...Happy Birthday Jesus!

Christmas Goodies

Hunter and I made a Gingerbread House together for Christmas. Even though it was a little more difficult than I thought, we had a fun time! We also baked and decorated cookies for Santa. Hunter and I have a sweet tooth and love eating Christmas goodies...just as much as getting presents!

Santa's Land

Every year our local flea market hosts a Santa's Land, a collection of inflatable Christmas decorations, and all donations go to the local food bank. Hunter and I visited last week, and enjoyed the beautiful and animated decorations. Hunter even spoke to Santa and sat on his lap!

Happy Birthday Hunter

Hunter turned 4 years old on Sunday! He celebrated on Friday with a Pirate birthday party at daycare. Hunter and his friends wore beaded necklaces and eye patches, got a tattoo, ate popcorn and cupcakes, and bounced in the bounce house! Everyone also took home a goodie bag. That evening, Hunter and I went with Amanda, Layla and Leslee to see the "Holiday Lights on the River" at Saluda Shoals Park, which is the midlands largest drive through lights show. Hunter and Layla loved being able to be out of their car seats and look out the window at all of the beautiful lights. Afterwards, we all went to eat at Ci Ci's pizza. On Sunday, Hunter and I visited Nannie. She surprised him with with he wanted...a DVD player and movies! Hunter not only had a great weekend with family and friends, but he got lots of presents too! Happy Birthday Hunter!

Daycare Christmas Program

Hunter's daycare held their annual Christmas program last Tuesday evening. The theme was "Sleep Jesus" and Hunter was dressed as a Dove. Hunter enjoyed singing in the program with his friends, and especially seeing Santa! Afterwards, we enjoyed refreshments together. Hunter did such a great job, and I was so proud of him!

Thanksgiving Dinner

Hunter's daycare had Thanksgiving dinner today for the children and their parents. The children dressed up as pilgrims and indians, and were so excited to be eating lunch with their parents. We both enjoyed ourselves with great food and friends!

James turned 4 years old on Sunday and celebrated with a G.I. Joe birthday party. The weather was beautiful and they kids enjoyed playing with each other. They also enjoyed eating hot dogs, hamburgers, and cake. Happy Birthday James!

Hunter AKA Spiderman celebrated Halloween all weekend long! On Friday, he carved a pumpkin with his friends, Layla and Kensleigh. On Saturday, he went to a Halloween party at the home of his friends, Olivia and Andrew. There, he enjoyed a hay ride and decorated a pumpkin. On Sunday, he went to Trunk or Treat at our church. Hunter joined several of his friends there, loaded up on candy, and enjoyed a hay ride. On Halloween, he celebrated at daycare with a party and trick or treated around the classrooms. Afterwards, he went to a Fall Festival at a local church. Hunter loved all of the activities there...especially riding the swings. Hunter had a very Spooktacular Halloween!

Bug and Monster Spray

Hunter was recently scared to sleep in his bed at night because he said there were bugs and monsters in his room. Of course, there wasn't, but it took alot of encouragement at night for him to feel comfortable. A friend of mine told me that his son was the same way for a while about monsters, so he created Monster Spray. He told me to take the label off of a can of air freshener, spray it in Hunter's room at night time, and tell him that it will make all of the bugs and monsters go away. I gave it a try and it worked! Hooray for Bug and Monster Spray!

Soccer

Hunter started playing soccer two weeks ago for the county soccer club. His team is the red pirates, and they practice and play once a week. This is Hunter's first organized sport and he is doing great! He was a little shy at first, but quickly warmed up and is a great player! The little ones are so cute to watch and they're sure to put a smile on your face. Hunter has already met new friends and has enjoyed having his old friends come to cheer him on. Go Hunter #3!

Hunter and I decided to have dinner last week at one of his favorite restaurants...Uno Chicago Grill. Kids can make their own pizza there and Hunter loves it! We were surprised to find out that it was Kid's Night, and Hunter got his face painted like a pirate and ate for free. We had a fun evening together and will definitely make it one of our regular dinner dates!

Layla turned 4 years old yesterday and celebrated with a Princess birthday party. The rain and humidity didn't stop the kids from having a great time running under the water sprayer, digging in the sand, and playing on the playground! Moving Up

Last Friday was Hunter's last day in the Younger Three Year Old room at daycare. He learned alot, made friends, and loved Miss Debbie and Miss Katie. Yesterday was Hunter's first day in the Older Three Year Old room. His new teachers are Miss Leslee, Miss Melissa and Miss Ashley. When I picked Hunter up, he told me that he had a good day, and was excited to show me his folder full of goodies. Inside, there was artwork, welcoming cards, and a bag of treats. I can't believe that Hunter will soon be four years old, but I'm looking foward to his new adventures in the upcoming months!

Hunter and I planned to go to the river yesterday with Hunter's friend and his parents, but due to the rainy forecast, we all decided to go roller skating instead. Hunter had been once before and enjoyed it, so I knew he would again...especially with Bryce. After skating, they also enjoyed playing a few arcade games. The boys had a good time, and so did Bryce's mother and I!

Several days ago, Hunter found a toad frog burrowed in a hole in the flower bed next to our house. Ever since, he has talked non stop about the frog, which he named Teko. Hunter visits Teko daily and gets so excited when he sees him. When Teko is not there, he'll tell me that Teko is gone out to eat or to play with his friends. Hunter loves his new pet frog, and I hope he stays around for a while!

It was in the triple digits all last week, so Hunter and I planned a fun weekend inside. We went to see Cars 2, which Hunter had reminded me of all week! Hunter loved the movie, popcorn, and motorcycle game. Afterwards, we went to Yumilicious...a new self serve yogurt cafe. We enjoyed creating and eating our own yummy yogurt treat! We'll definitely be going back soon!

My birthday was last Thursday and Gracyn's, my niece, was Friday. Hunter gave me a birthday card that he made at daycare, and we went out to dinner at my favorite steak house with Amanda, Layla, and Leslee. Hunter was amazed when the restaurant staff sang me a birthday song, and loved eating my birthday brownie dessert! We celebrated Gracyn's 1st birthday with fun in the pool, and eating hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade ice cream, and cake. Happy Birthday to Gracyn and I!

Summer Fun

Hunter had fun at a local park Sunday afternoon with his friends, James and Amelia. The park not only had swings and slides, but a water splash area too! Hunter loved being able to play, and then run around in the water to cool off! Afterwards, we all went to pick blueberries. Hunter and I enjoyed eating the blueberries...especially in a blueberry cobbler with ice cream!

Cutest Kid Contest

Hunter's paternal grandmother entered him into her hometown Cutest Kid Contest. As a contest advertisement, Hunter made the front page of the June 3, 2011 newspaper! The voting period was from June 1-15 and Hunter received 788 votes...making him the Overall Cutest Kid Winner! Hunter made the front page of the newspaper again today, with an article and picture of him receiving a Wal-Mart gift certificate. I am so proud of my cute kid!

The Herald Independent’s Cutest Kid Contest is over, and the winner has been chosen. Luckily, we didn’t have to decide. You did. Visitors to the www.heraldindependent.com website were able to view the entrants and vote for their favorite.

Independent Body Shop, located at 70-A Independent Road in Winnsboro, graciously sponsored the contest, and on Friday, awarded winner Hunter Franklin Bass, 3 1/2, with a Wal-Mart gift certificate.

Hunter giggled when asked about being named the contest’s cutest kid.

“I think it’s great,” he said.

“Hunter likes cars and loves the Gamecocks,” said his grandmother, Carol Ann Bass. “His dad takes him to daytime Carolina games. Hunter likes to tailgate.”

Carol Ann said Hunter loves to swim and is looking forward to his first T-ball lessons and games that start next week. He has a dachshund and a hermit crab as pets.
(Hunter will start T-ball next spring and also has a fish and 2 cats.)

“Hunter really is cute,” said Bill Edenfield, of Independent Body. “We enjoyed being a part of this contest.”

Hunter and I enjoyed the holiday weekend with fireworks and the Peach Festival. Last night, Hunter and Xander had some Sparkler fun and watched the fireworks in the neighborhood. Today, we all beat the heat and enjoyed the Peach Festival...especially the BBQ sandwiches and peach ice cream! Hunter also got a horse puppet on a string, and has loved playing with it. We're very thankful for our freedom, and wish America a Happy Birthday!

Myrtle Beach

Hunter and I went on vacation to Myrtle Beach last week with Amanda, Layla and Leslee. We enjoyed playing on the beach and in the pool, going to the the Pirates Voyage, and riding the SkyWheel. The Pirates Voyage, previously Dixie Stampede, is a new pirate themed dinner show. It includes pirates, buccaneers, mermaids, live animals, and music by Dolly Parton on a full sized pirate ship in a 15 foot deep hideaway lagoon. And to top it off...a feast of Voyager creamy vegetable soup, Buccaneer bread, half o' roasted chicken, BBQ pork shank, crispy fried shrimp, cob o' buttery corn, mashed & flogged taters, and apple o' me eye pie. The SkyWheel is a new observation wheel 200 feet above sea level. The ride has 42 climate controlled enclosed gondolas and a nightly LED lightshow. Hunter also became the proud owner of a hermit crab that he named Freddy. Our week was fun filled and we didn't want it to end!

Hunter made his daddy a few Father's Day gifts this week at daycare. He made him a shirt and tie with his finger prints as the buttons, a book mark in the shape of his footprint, and a "Super Dad" award. Hunter also gave his daddy a framed picture of him and Cocky and a "The Best Dad Ever" Tervis tumbler. Hunter was all smiles when his daddy looked at his gifts...and so was he!

Hunter attended Vacation Bible School this week with his friends, Layla and Kensleigh. The theme was Big Apple Adventure, and Hunter had so much fun learning about Jesus, singing, playing, making crafts, and meeting new people. I loved going to Vacation Bible School as a child, and I'm so glad Hunter did too!

Swimming Lessons

Hunter started taking swimming lessons last week and he's doing great! The class is called Swim 101 and is for 3 to 5 year olds. Hunter is learning first-time submersion, breath holding, breath control, front kicking, back kicking, in-line kicking, paddle stroke, and underwater swimming using a "Pop-up" and "Roll-over" breath. The teacher gave Hunter a bracelet to wear during each session, and he gets a star punched in it every time he masters a skill. Hunter loves being in the water and looks forward to every lesson!

I had the day off for Confederate Memorial Day, so I took Hunter to pick strawberries this morning. He loved finding and picking the best strawberries...and beating me to it! Hunter also reminded me several times not to pick the strawberries if they weren't big and red. When we got home, we enjoyed making and eating strawberry shortcake!

On Friday morning, Hunter's daycare had "Muffins for Moms", so we enjoyed breakfast together. Afterwards, Hunter gave me a few precious gifts that he made during the week. Today, we had lunch with my mama and family, and enjoyed the beautiful day outside. I am very blessed and thankful to be a mother, and to have a mother who loves me unconditionally.

Before I was a mom...I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed. I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.
Before I was a mom...I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a mom...I had never been puked on, pooped on, spit on, chewed on, or peed on. I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts. I slept all night.
Before I was a mom...I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a mom...I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a mom.
Before I was a mom...I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important.
Before I was a mom...I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a mom. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a mom.

Hunter enjoyed several Easter activities this week. He helped me make an Easter egg tree, dyed Easter eggs, received a letter in the mail from the Easter Bunny, had an Easter egg hunt and party at daycare, visited the Easter Bunny, attended an Easter egg hunt with 40,000 eggs, and was surprised with a basket of goodies from the Easter Bunny today! Hunter told me that we celebrate Easter because Jesus is in our hearts. Yes He is, and we're both very thankful for the sacrifice that He made for us in order to have eternal life!

Movie Fun

It rained last Saturday, so the Easter Festival that I planned to take Hunter to was cancelled. With much anticipation of doing something fun, I decided it would be a good movie day...especially since Rio was recently out in theatres. I made a few phone calls, and a Hunter had a movie play date with Layla, Brodie, and Xander. Hunter and his friends loved their free Rio Silly Bandz, the movie, and especially the popcorn!

USC Baseball

Hunter went to a USC baseball game today with his daddy, who beat Kentucky 4-1. Hunter was excited about going to the game and seeing Cocky! He came home and told me how good the baseball players hit the ball, but that he was a little shy around Cocky. Hunter was also able to enjoy several baseball games last year with his daddy, when USC claimed the 2010 NCAA Baseball National Championship. Go Gamecocks!

During a recent trip to Wal-Mart with Hunter, we came across cartoon decorated kites for children. Hunter chose the Batman kite, and at only $1.00, I couldn't pass it up! The day was nice and the wind was just right to try it out. We both had fun watching Batman fly in the air, and look forward to many more kite flying days!

Discovery Place Kids

Hunter and I went to Discovery Place Kids in NC yesterday with my sister and niece. Hunter and Grier loved playing and learning about the various exhibits, which included 9 specific areas...I Can Move, I Can Create, I Can Be Healthy, I Can Work, I Can Explore Underwater, I Can Build, I Can Grow, The Town Center, and The Learning Garden. It was very interesting and we'll definately go back again soon!

Pizza Fun

Amanda and I took Hunter and Layla to Uno Chicago Grill for some pizza fun! On the kids menu, there is a "Make Your Own Pizza". Hunter and Layla got their own apron, thin crust pizza dough, sauce and toppings...and they got to do the rest! It was alot of fun and yummy too, so we'll definitely go back again soon!

Playdate and Birthday Party

On Saturday, Hunter had a playdate with Bryce, his friend from daycare. They spent the morning at Bryce's house playing with toys and on the playground. They also had fun riding around the yard in Bryce's Jeep! Afterwards, Hunter went to VJ's 7th birthday party. It was Sponge Bob Square Pants themed with a clown who made balloon animals, face painted, and did a magic show. Happy Birthday VJ!

Happy Valentine's Day

Hunter had a very Happy Valentines Day! He gave his daycare teachers a box of chocolates and his friends a Handy Manny card and a heart sucker. They had a Valentine’s party and Hunter received lots of cards and candy. For dinner, Hunter and I went to Sumo Japanese Restaurant with Amanda, Layla, Leslee, and Amanda’s parents. Hunter loved eating with chop sticks and was amazed at the cook's fire tricks! Afterwards, I gave Hunter a heart shaped basket full of goodies. I was so happy to share Valentine’s Day with such a sweet little boy!

Wordless Wednesday

Circus and Birthday Party

Hunter and I went to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and then to Xander's 2nd birthday party yesterday. Hunter enjoyed the circus, while playing with his motorcycle light up toy and eating popcorn. The animals were Hunter's favorite part of the circus and the contortionists acts were mine. Xander's birthday party was pirate themed, so everyone enjoyed wearing pirate attire. Happy Birthday Xander! Arrr!

Backseat Driver

Hunter has become a backseat driver! He reminds me to put on my seat belt, tells me to stop if the light is red, to slow down if it is yellow, and to go if it is green. He tells me to speed up or slow down, and points me in the direction that I should go. Hunter also often requests to listen to certain songs on the radio, and points out silver cars like mine or white trucks like his daddy's. It's never a boring ride with Hunter in the car!
